Vintage Original 1955 Black and White US Army Paratrooper Soldier “Joe” 11th Airborne Parachute Infantry Regiment Photographs Lot of 2. Joe Neely was from Butler, PA and was My Mother, Angela Black’s, High School Sweetheart. When He Joined the Army in 1955 after High School, He Gave the Headshot Photo to my Mother with the Inscription, ‘to AB, “55”’, to which Someone Added, “Joe” (Joe’s handwriting was not that good!). In the Headshot Picture, You Will Notice the US Army Paratrooper Patch on His Hat, Pin above His Pocket, and 11th Airborne Patch on His Sleeve. In the Photo of Joe (Neely) on the Boat, He also is Sporting the Paratrooper Pin on His US Army Hat. On the Back of the Photo of Joe on the Boat, He is Practicing His German as He was Sent to Germany in 1955/56 as Part of Operation Gyroscope. Loosely Translated, His Writing Says He’ll Be Back in 2 Hours. Joe was a Member of the Army 11th Airborne Division Air Assault Group Nicknamed the “Angels”. Photograph Dimensions: 5 in x 3 1/2 in.
