    Description

This is a RARE cockade for Soviet Army Generals.
The rarity is due to the fact that this "short lived" late 1960s cap badge is composed by two detachable parts: the star is fixed upon the oval badge through two prongs. Standard later-period Soviet Army Generals' cockades have the star as a separate piece, but attached to the ovel badge through to rivets which make it non detachable.
You can better appreciate this particular feature of this cockade in the fourth and firth photos, in which I have assembled a display from my collection:
in the top row you can see two M1955 cockades, manufactured in heavy brass and with an enamelled star; right at the centre you have a late 1960s "short-lived" cap badge identical to the one on sale; on the lower row of the photo the standard 1970s version.
This late 1960s "short-lived" two-pieces variant of the Generals and Marshals' cap badge retained from the M1955 model the structure, but was built in light metal.
Just as the M1955, the star is an entirely detachable piece, fixed on the oval badge with two prongs. The later standard 1970s Generals' cockade looks very similar this this one, but has one major difference: the star is non-detachable. Instead of the prongs you find two rivets, which permanently fix the star upon the oval badge.
    In very good conditions.
