    Description

Troops in Field Oil Painting c. 1955
Original framed oil painting featuring command tent/mess tent at left, generator in foreground, and troops eating chow with additional tents and water trailer at right, all in a wooded setting. Mounted in a plain, natural finish wood frame. Canvas measures 18 x 24 inches, overall framed size 27 1/2 x 21 1/2 inches. Signed by artist SP3 PAUL FARR at lower right, and named to a Warrant Officer on back.
Specialist 3rd Class rank was used from 1955 to 1958, which helps narrow down the time period. Original owner [the name on back] was a career US Army Warrant Officer from the Fort Hood, Texas area who participated in Operation SAGEBRUSH [large-scale field maneuvers in central and western Louisiana in the fall of 1955], and the pine trees/red clay ground in the painting are typical of the region, especially that around Fort Polk, which was a major staging base and control center for the operation.
Some minor scuffs to frame but no tears, flaking paint, or other damage to the painting itself. Interesting folk art-type view of life in the field during a major training exercise, great piece for any collector of military art or Louisiana related military items and is in fine condition. Any questions please feel free to ask.
