    Description

Vintage Beer Stein.  One side has the UN logo and reads "U.N.E.F Egypt 1958/59" (United Nations Emergency Force).  The other side reads "Recce Sqn" (Reconnaissance Squadron), "1/8 CND Hussars" (Canadian Hussars), "Mens Canteen", "LCPL LS Cormier" (original owner was LS Cormier and his rank was Lance Corporal).  There is also an engraved depiction of an armored vehicle, appears to be a Ferret.  Measures approx. 5-1/4" tall x 5" in diameter (including handle).  This item is used and is in good condition with some light signs of use/wear.  I have noted some light surface wear to metal, as well a couple small subtle dings.  Seal on the bottom glass is a bit grimy looking.  Please see photos for more details.
    More details about UNEF:
The first United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF) was established by United Nations General Assembly to secure an end to the Suez Crisis with resolution 1001 (ES-I) on 7 November 1956. The force was developed in large measure as a result of efforts by UN Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld and a proposal and effort from Canadian Minister of External Affairs Lester B. Pearson, who would later win the Nobel Peace Prize for it. The General Assembly had approved a plan submitted by the Secretary-General which envisaged the deployment of UNEF on both sides of the armistice line; Egypt accepted receiving the UN forces, but Israel refused it. The first UNEF lasted until 1967.
