The N.S. Meyer Company of New York City was one of America's foremost insignia makers until it folded over 20 years ago. In addition to the U.S. government, N.S. Meyer contracted with many foreign governments within the Western Hemisphere for their insignia needs. These items are NEW old stock cleared from the factory when it was liquidated. All are over 60 years old, still on their maker cards, and are UNUSED. They are as bright and pretty as the day they were made! These were difficult to photograph as they are still very shiny with their heavy plating.
These gold colored lapel insignia were worn by Somoza and his higher ranking henchmen who ran the National Guard. This organization served as the Somoza family's private army, controlling all defense, police, border guard and even civil aviation functions. The regime was overthrown in 1979. These are 3/4" tall and have pin backs on them. You will receive TWO PAIRS of the set of two as shown. See the image of Papa Somoza to see how these were worn.
This is still the national crest of Nicaragua. These would make a nice gift to Nicaraguan friends or visitors spreading goodwill there.
