Mule Variations
album – his thirteenth studio album, produced by Waits and Kathleen Brennan, and originally released on 16th April, 1999 on the ANTI- label.
It was Waits' first studio album in six years, following
The Black Rider
(1993) and received widespread critical acclaim.
Mule Variations
won a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk album and was nominated for Best Male Rock Performance for the song "Hold On". It reached #30 on the
Billboard
200, and stayed on the charts for 9 weeks. It
has sold over  500,000 copies worldwide.
