    Description

Six (6) Roly Poly glasses created for members of the U.S. Navy's OPERATION DEEP FREEZE. These came from the estate of an ex-Seabee who had been part of TASK FORCE 43, which provided the logistics for Antarctic portion of the "International Geophysical Year 1957–58". ~ I estimate the date of these glasses to be circa 1960s. Not sure if they were given to members of the Task Force as a gift, or whether they perhaps were items that members could buy years later to commemorate the event. ~ Glasses measure just over 3 1/4" tall and 3 1/4" in diameter at the rim. They are weighted at the bottom and fit nicely in the palm of your hand. ~ Will ship well-padded and double-boxed. ~ If you feel our price is out of line, please make an offer
Six (6) Roly Poly glasses created in the late 50s/1960s for members of the U.S. Navy's OPERATION DEEP FREEZE. These came from the estate of an ex-Seabee who had been part of TASK FORCE 43, which provided the logistics for Antarctic portion of the "International Geophysical Year 1957–58" - a collaborative effort among forty nations to carry out earth science studies from the North Pole to the South Pole and at points in between. Members of the Navy in Operation Deep Freeze were the very first Americans to set foot on the South Pole in 1956. Walt Disney himself designed the logo used on these glasses.
I estimate the date of these glasses to be circa 1960s. Not sure if they were given to members of the Task Force as a gift, or whether they perhaps were items that members could buy years later to commemorate the event.
