Description
Auction for vintage set/lot German 1957 medals in box with limited research. There are no WW2 German markings on these medals. In 1957 the Federal German Government authorized de-Nazified versions of wartime awards except those with German Party connections or any of the expansion medals. Only a limited number of German WWII medals are still produced but only a limited few are recognized by the German government including the Iron Crosses and German Crosses in Silver and Gold along with the wound badges. Many German veterans, proud of their service obtained these awards. Others serving in the Bundeswehr obtained them so that their peers would be aware of their previous accomplishments. This particular group came with a chain of miniature medals that sold in a separate auction. Name of the individual believed to be K. Kuster. Unknown if he served in the Bundeswehr but the box top they came in has the Federal German Republic Shield.
1. 1957 Post WW2 German War Merit Cross First Class. Pinback medal has no markings. I believe this medal may have been made anywhere between 1960-1975. Possibly a Deumer pattern.
2. 1957 Post WW2 German War Merit Cross Second Class. No manufacturer marks noted. Some fraying of ribbon at top. Believed to be ST&L (Steinhauer & Lueck) pattern. Can be harder to find than the 1st Class Pattern.
3. 1957 Post WW2 German Infantry Assault Badge. No manufacturer marks noted. This may be the Deumer pattern. Loop that pin slides under to secure is bent. Pinback looks like it would work but I don't want to try and force open the securing loop.
4. 1957 Post WW2 East Front Medal. Ribbon has some fraying on end. Unknown maker. Probably a 1970's issue.
5. 1957 Post WW2 Demjansk Shield, 1942. Believed to be a ST&L (Steinhauer & Lueck) pattern. Prongs are intact. No WW2 German markings.
6. 1957 Post WW2 Kurland Cuff Title. Some fraying of the cuff on ends. Appears to be woven.
7. Photocopy of the individual believed to be K. Kuster.
Medals and cuff show normal wear/tear associated with age. Cuff and ribbons show some fraying. Copies of records show wear from storage. Items may show other minor age related defects.
