East German m56 1st type combat helmet
This is the 1st version of the famous m56 type helmet, 3-rivet configuration and the very early Wehrmacht-style type of liner.
Most of these were retrofitted with the new liner system begin of the 70's, and their rivets obsolete with this new liner system.
Examples with the original full leather liner are becoming very hard to come by
Shell is in very good condition, no holes,cracks or bumps (the m56 is considered the best ballistical metal combat helmet, due to it's sloping form)
Original grey-green textured anti reflective paint, with obvious paint losses; it's been issued and worn.
The liner is standard full leather liner, a nearly an exact copy of the ww2 German one.
All leather "fingers" are complete and leather is in good supple condition.
The size is ink stamped 57 (US size 7 1/8, and can also be found on the right-front chinstrap attachment bale.
The shell is stamped       38 or 68

The chinstrap is the standard E-German Y-shaped one in tan leather, with buckle and prong closure, all in good condition and supple.
