This sale is for a distinctive unit insignia (DUI/DI) for the 2nd Engineer Battalion of the US Army. This is the clutch-back version that would have been in use through the Vietnam Era (mid 1950s through mid 1960s). The back is marked "Denmark" and D-22 hallmark, it also has "N.Y 10012" and "Made in U.S.A."
The design dates to February 13, 1925, when it was approved by the Army. The unit was organized during the Civil War, and its heraldic imagery in the crest comes from its service in both the Civil War and the Spanish American War. In WWII, the unit saw service in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe.
