    The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has issued new rules for the ORM-D shipment of Hazardous Materials.
    The ORM-D classification and the ORM-D marking are being phased out. The use of the old ORM-D classification and "Consumer Commodity" as proper shipping name, the combination which was only allowed to be used on domestic
    U.S.
    ground (truck and rail) shipments, will end on
    December 31, 2015
    . The reason for the elimination of the ORM-D classification is to more closely harmonize with international practices.
    Effective
    January 1, 2014
    , this label designated  Limited Quantities for surface transport in the
    U.S.
    replaces all ORM-D labels. The label can be a 4" square or as small as a 2" square if the size of the package so requires. The marking must be durable, legible and of a size relative to the package as to be readily visible. The marking must be applied on at least one side or one end of the outer packaging. The color in the upper and lower areas of the mark must be black with the center area being white or a suitable contrasting color. The wording "or a sustainable contrasting color" means that natural kraft color is acceptable. No chemical ID, UN marking, or hazmat shipping paper is required for road or rail shipments. The Limited Quantity label with Y is required for all air shipment but can be used for ground, rail, or sea shipments. The Limited Quantity label without Y can only be used for ground, rail, or sea shipments.
    Label is printed one color black on a white paper label stock with permanent adhesive. Size is 4" x 4" square.  You get 20 labels in a roll.  Just peel and stick.
