1944 Army Officer’s Field Mess Kit G3-C-553 Case, Utensils War large 1956

Case has label 1944, G3-C-553.
Used later, About Aug 1956. Two labels say 1956.
Has two keys and items inside case.

Top of case says complete. Please see photos. Since many items are wrapped, I did not unwrap. Most items below are still wrapped. This may have done for shipping back home. Has silverware in upper wood box that hinges down, that has US stamped on them, a plater with US marking. Glass salt and pepper shakers, can opener. I can see one lid has chip. Looked to be baked enamel gray with black trim. Used, perhaps cleaned and packed to ship home. One handle on case is detached but will say in place for display.

This mess kit was from estate that had interesting story as a grenade and a mortar bomb were somehow brought home by the service man… I can’t post link here, but you can search youtube. - “San Anselmo Bomb Squad”.

End of story, all safe, mess kit is for sale.
Maybe a few cups were temporarily exchanged by service man in 1959 for “something else” for shipping!
About 18” wide, 14 deep, 14 tall.
