Rare and original, 1890's,Milk Glass Backed Advertising Paperweight for Beckermann & Co. of New York City importers of Silk and Tailor’s Supplies and manufacturers of clothing buttons. This rare, Milk Glass backed Advertising Paperweight features an image of the nine story “high rise” headquarters of the company located at 458 Broadway in New York City. Text above the image reads “Beckermann & Co. / Importers & Jobbers of Fine Silks and Tailor Trimmings / Makers of the Celebrated ‘Gilt Edge’ Covered Button”.
The Paperweight is made of glass with a thick wafer of white milk glass on the reverse. The advertising text and image is printed on the upper surface of the milk glass wafer and is viewed through the thick, clear glass of the Paperweight. The Paperweight measures approx. 2 1/2" by 4” by 7/8” and is copyright 1892 by the manufacturer - the American Paper Weight Company of Pittsburgh.
This very rare and attractive, Milk Glass Backed, Advertising Paperweight is in very good condition. There are two small chips to the bottom edge of the top side of the Paperweight as can be seen in the scans below and there is some fading to one line of the text. There are no other chips, cracks, breaks or repairs of any kind. The surface of the glass is clean and crisp with no surface scratches, abrasions, discoloration or wear of any kind. The surface retains its original, brilliant shine and there are literally no surface scratches or abrasions of any kind. Overall this Advertising Paperweight is well preserved and it displays beautifully.
